Canes in Cannes

DAY FOUR

This day was easily one of the best days of my life. We had our usual croissant breakfast and then took the bus to a ferry. We then had a 30-minute ride to Île Saint Honorat which offered incredible views of Cannes from the water. The water itself was this gorgeous deep blue too. Île Saint Honorat is an island inhabited by 21 monks. When we arrived we walked along the pathways, saw old ruins, and the Monasterio de Lerins. The architecture was beautiful, with several stone statues of biblical figures, and I loved how vibrant the gardens were. A small tourist building had interesting facts about the monks and their commitment to their practice, my favorite part was reading all the answers to the most commonly questions asked about monks.

One highlight was the wine tasting at the vineyard run entirely by monks. We learned how to properly taste wine, noting its different legs and flavors. We tried both red and white, and surprisingly, the red was my favorite—definitely the best wine I’ve ever had.  After tasting, we had lunch at a restaurant on the water and explored the island. My friends and I wanted to swim, so we found a hidden pathway to a rocky beach. Climbing down a steep dirt hill, we discovered that the rocky beach had an abundance of sea glass in various shades, we even found an old pair of dentures! I took home some sea glass but left the dentures behind obviously. We spent an hour swimming and jumping off the rocks into the bluest water I’ve ever swam in. Later, I journaled a bit on the beach before getting ready for dinner at BÂOLI.

Ana, our classmate got us a reservation at a famous restaurant called BÂOLI. The dim red lights and Asian-inspired decor created a unique atmosphere. As the night progressed, the restaurant turned into a club, with a DJ playing loud music and lights flashing while servers clapped to the beat. It felt very fancy. After dinner, we returned to the Irish Pub to talk about the trip so far and then went to bed.
